World Press Freedom Day
Today is World Press Freedom Day, a day set aside by the United Nations as "an occasion to inform the public of violations of the right to freedom of expression and as a reminder that many journalists brave death or jail to bring people their daily news." UNESCO's World Press Freedom Day 2007 website is a good starting point for marking the day...

Global Reporting Initiative

TOL: "Blogs: The New Frontier in Human Rights"
In an article for Transitions Online, Evgeny Morozov describes the case of Denis Denisov, a Belarusian political activist who was arrested in February for distributing flyers calling for non-violent protest against the government. Two months later he was released on bail, an action which Morozov credits to financial and moral support generated by Belarussian bloggers.
